The MAX1538ETI is an advanced power-source selector from Maxim Integrated designed for dual-battery systems. It automatically selects the optimal power source among a standard AC adapter, airline (in-flight) power adapter, and two batteries. The device continuously monitors battery undervoltage conditions, battery insertion/removal, and the presence of AC or airline adapters. Its fast break-before-make switching allows hot-swapping of battery packs without requiring external Schottky diodes. By independently handling power-source selection and monitoring, it reduces the workload on the system power-management microcontroller, enabling lower overall power consumption. The "relearn mode" allows accurate measurement and full utilization of battery capacity, even when an AC adapter is present. When an airline adapter is detected, the MAX1538 automatically disables battery charging and discharging, powering the system solely from the adapter for safe in-flight operation. Ideal for notebook computers, tablets, and dual-battery portable devices.
