The ISL95522AHRZ is a highly versatile combination battery charger with an SMBus interface, developed by Renesas Intersil for laptops and portable devices. This IC offers the flexibility to be configured as either a Hybrid Power Boost (HPB) charger or a Narrow VDC (NVDC) charger, supporting 2-, 3-, or 4-cell batteries. In both configurations, it allows the battery to work in tandem with the adapter to supply the system load when it exceeds the adapter's capability (system Turbo mode). In the HPB configuration, battery energy is reverse-boosted to the system bus, while in the NVDC configuration, BGATE turns on quickly to enable the battery to assist the adapter. It utilizes N-channel MOSFETs (NFETs) for all switches to maximize performance and minimize BOM cost. With the Renesas Robust Ripple Regulator (R3) modulation scheme, it delivers excellent light-load efficiency and fast dynamic response.
