Product Features 

The IT8517E (IT8517E-HXA) is an industry-standard Embedded Controller (EC) and Keyboard Controller (KBC) IC developed by ITE Tech for notebook motherboards. It is provided in an industrial LQFP-128 (leaded surface-mount) package structure. It manages vital hardware processes on the motherboard, such as keyboard/touchpad inputs, system power sequencing, battery charge management, and thermal monitoring (fan control, temperature sensors). Unlike newer generation ITE chips (e.g., IT8586E), this model does not feature an internal programmable flash memory. It reads its operating commands (firmware) from an external EC ROM (SPI Flash) IC or the main BIOS chip located on the motherboard. Therefore, there is no need to program the chip directly using I/O programming devices after assembly; a functional BIOS on the motherboard is sufficient for it to operate. It is a standard input/output controller frequently replaced in laptop logic board repairs, especially in cases where the device fails to trigger, cuts power, or does not recognize peripherals.
