The BD99950MUV-E2 (BD99950) is a high-efficiency, synchronous Narrow VDC (NVDC) battery charger controller designed by ROHM Semiconductor for ultrabooks, notebooks, and tablet PCs. Controlled via the SMBus interface, this chip precisely manages the charging processes of 2-cell and 3-cell batteries. Operating over a wide AC adapter input voltage range from 6.0V to 24.0V, it flawlessly ensures the transition between system power and the battery. Thanks to its built-in dual charge pump architecture, it directly drives N-channel MOSFETs to automatically perform system power source selection. The programmable PWM switching frequency from 600kHz to 1.2MHz allows for the reduction of external inductor sizes, saving space on the PCB. To maximize system safety, it features comprehensive protection hardware such as over-voltage protection (ACOVP, BATTOVP), over-current protection (ACOC, High/Low-Side FET OCP), and a 175°C thermal shutdown (TSHUT). Furthermore, it is an advanced charge control IC in a VQFN-20 package that offers high-level power management features such as fast DPM transient response under Turbo Mode and fast load current transient response even under no battery conditions.
